Our Story

It’s often said that "hard times are sometimes blessings in disguise... that they make us stronger, better, and wiser." Our story is a testament to that. Like many others, the economic downturn of 2009 forced us to reevaluate our path forward. Both my husband and I had careers that were hit hard—he in construction and I in real estate—leaving us with the unsettling question: what’s next?

As immigrants who came to the U.S. in the 1980s, we’ve always believed in the promise of this country—that with hard work and determination, there are no limits to what you can achieve. So, when my husband came home one night and casually asked, "Honey, why don’t we raise organic chickens?" I was stunned. I had no experience with farming, apart from my love for animals. But after some thought, I realized that maybe this was our opportunity to create something new, something meaningful.

So we got to work. We researched for weeks, studying different farm models and philosophies. It didn’t take long for us to realize that if we were going to raise animals, it had to be done right—with love, care, and respect for nature. We came across Joel Salatin’s book, Pastured Poultry Profits, which aligned perfectly with our vision. His farm model inspired us to take the leap into pasture-raised, organic poultry farming, even though local experts in Palm Beach County told us it couldn’t be done in Florida’s hot, humid climate. They even suggested we try growing microgreens instead!

But as Brazilians, we knew that heat and humidity weren’t obstacles, just challenges to overcome. We pressed forward, determined to build our farm on our terms.

Fast forward to today, and we’ve been raising chickens, turkeys, ducks, and now a small herd of grass-fed cattle for over 9 years. Every day, our animals roam on our lush pastures, stress-free, just as nature intended. In addition to poultry and beef, we also tend to our beehives, where we harvest raw, organic honey. As small-scale beekeepers, we always leave enough honey for the bees to thrive throughout the season, ensuring they remain healthy and strong.

Looking back, it’s amazing to think about how far we’ve come—from city life to a farm filled with animals. What started as a creative idea during a tough time has grown into BioFarm Grassfed Provisions, where we provide nutritious, ethically raised food for our community. We’re so proud to be able to share the fruits of our labor with our BioFarm family!
